The students in Mrs. K’s 5th grade class have been having a blast while learning about exciting topics in science and social studies! Through hands-on activities, discussions, and teamwork, students are exploring new ideas, making connections, and having fun along the way. We love seeing their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning! 🔬🌎📚✨

Mrs. Allgood’s and Mrs. K’s classes had an impromptu get-together to say hello to our new buddies for the year! We had fun discovering things we have in common and even created our very own secret handshakes. We’re excited to build new friendships, learn from one another, and work on fun activities together throughout the year! 💛📚✨

Resilience
One staff member from each school level will be celebrated under the Friday night lights at the GHS varsity home football game vs. Omaha Skutt! 🏈✨

Mrs. Gunn's 3rd graders are learning place value in a fun, hands-on way! They used place value blocks to build their names and see numbers in a whole new way.

Just a reminder that order forms for our author visit with Justin Colón are due this Friday the 21st!

In Mrs. Hirsch’s 3rd grade class, students used base ten blocks to spell and find the value of their names!

It was the 3rd day of 3rd grade, so what better way to celebrate than getting all three 3rd grade classes together! We had a mean game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Then, we worked together to create letters using only our bodies.

Mrs. Gunn's 3rd graders had a little fun with words yesterday! They used Scrabble letters to see how many words they could create. Of course, one of the most popular words was… their own name!

This Is The Gretna Way - https://tinyurl.com/yc794t7m
What is The Gretna Way?
It’s more than a phrase. It’s who we are and how we show up for one another.
It’s our students supporting each other. It’s staff members lifting one another up. It’s families cheering our schools on. It’s community members stepping in to help. It’s choosing positivity, finding joy, and making sure the people around us know they matter.
The Gretna Way belongs to all of us.
We asked members of our Gretna community what The Gretna Way means to them. We didn’t give them answers or tell them what to say. We simply asked them to share their experiences with Gretna Public Schools.
What they shared is a powerful reminder of the culture we have created together.
Our students feel it. Our families see it. Our community believes it.
As we begin another school year, let’s continue to support one another, embrace our imperfections, choose positivity over pessimism, find joy, and spread it every day.
Because we don’t do it alone.
We do it together. And that’s The Gretna Way.
Take a few minutes to watch the video and hear from the people who help make Gretna Public Schools such a special place.
A special thank you to Jacht for helping us capture the voices, stories, and spirit that make The Gretna Way so special.

Ms. Snyder's 4th grade class used the GPS expectations of giving kindness, practicing accountability, and staying safe to make posters with examples of ways to show all three to help them be successful in the classroom!

Miss Sempek's 2nd grade class has been hard at work practicing their math facts and collaboration skills with card games!

Mrs. Johnson’s 3rd grade class made a friendship snack to enjoy while getting to know new friends in their class!

Fourth graders spent some time this afternoon getting to know one another by playing the game mail call! An enjoyable time was had by all and they got to meet some new friends!

Mrs. Dickes took time out of her busy schedule to read the Principal from the Black Lagoon today to Mr. Vos’s classroom. Thanks to Mrs. Dickes for spending some time with us and sharing her love of reading!!

Big smiles, new friends, and lots of learning! 🎨🧸 Mrs. Lindsey’s preschoolers are off to a fantastic start this school year! Check out some of our favorite moments from the first days. 🍎✨

It's been a GREAT start to the 2026-2027 school year at GES!! We look forward to an exciting year ahead with some pretty awesome students!

What an amazing display of teamwork and creativity in Mrs. K’s 5th grade classroom! 🛠️✨
Students worked together to build a perch for Harry so he could see more easily around the room. Their challenge? Use only the materials in their supply bags and get Harry as high above the tabletops as possible—without compromising his safety!
So much problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity on display! We’re so proud of these young engineers! 💡👏
